2025 is officially here, and while January is a month famous for post-engagement celebrations (over 30 percent of the calendar year’s proposals take place in December!), it’s also the start of the NFL’s postseason. Over the next three weeks, teams from the American Football Conference (AFC) and the National Football Conference (NFC) will compete for a spot in Super Bowl LIX. However, here at BRIDES, we’re focused on a different kind of playoff picture. Rather than a competition based on touchdowns, field goals, and two-point conversions, we’re hosting a contest centered around carats, cuts, and gemstones. Welcome to the Ring Super Bowl!
Each week on our Instagram account, we’ll pit iconic engagement rings against one another in a diamond-shaped bracket and ask you to vote on your favorite; the winner of each match-up will advance to the next round of the competition. As for the engagement rings on our starting lineup? All of these sparklers are impressive in their own right. Some are known for their stunning cut or center stone, others are famous for their hefty price tag, and others still are simply iconic because of the couples they represent. And while some of these duos are no longer together, their rings (and relationships, for that matter) are remembered as important parts of pop culture.
We’ve stacked this roster to make choosing a winner challenging, but how you vote is entirely up to you: Perhaps you prefer one A-lister’s cushion-cut diamond, or find yourself more intrigued by a certain royal’s ring’s sapphire center. And while everyone has their own personal preferences when it comes to this all-important accessory, the question remains: Do others agree with your take? In our contest, you’ll be able to see and understand what the public actually thinks about some of the most well-known engagement rings as we narrow down our winner.
Before the competition can officially commence, we need to introduce you to our competitors. Spanning multiple decades, industries, and ages, the following engagement rings are some of the best we’ve ever seen—and now, we’re ready to put them to the test. Ahead, we break down the cuts, gemstones, price tags, and proposal stories behind each of these 16 rings, so you have a cheat sheet to reference each week.

In 2022, the Maid in Manhattan star stepped out wearing a $5.6 million-dollar green diamond set on a platinum band and surrounded by two half-moon-shaped diamonds. While the sparkler included a message of the actor’s commitment to the singer (“not.going.anywhere.”), Lopez ultimately filed for divorce on August 20, 2024, exactly two years after they tied the knot.

Lily Collins’ Rose-Cut Morganite Engagement Ring
Opting for something out of the ordinary, Charlie McDowell, a film director and screenwriter, proposed to Lily Collins, the star of Emily in Paris, with a rare rose-cut morganite ring designed by jeweler Irene Neuwirth; the moment unfolded during a hike, per the actress’ engagement announcement post on Instagram in 2020. With an estimated weight between two and three carats and price tag of around $4,000, the stone was set in a diamond halo with a brushed gold setting. Unfortunately, in May 2023, the sparkler was reported stolen from a spa locker room, along with the actress’ wedding band.
